A Journey of Hope

We realized that while there are many programs with well-intentioned and caring staff, the system itself often isn’t designed to truly support individuals like Cole and other young adults who still have so much potential to learn, grow, and contribute to society.

Many programs available to individuals like my son focus on structured routines that often involve spending hours driving around, visiting parks, convenience stores, and malls just to fill time. But I knew Cole needed more, something engaging, meaningful, and truly empowering. I wanted a program where autistic adults wouldn’t just pass the time, but instead build skills, form connections, and experience a genuine sense of belonging. A place that recognized their value, abilities, and right to be active participants in the world around them.

Determined to create this opportunity for my son, I turned to the Self-Determination Program (SDP). While navigating SDP can feel overwhelming, especially for parents already managing their loved one’s complex needs, it has been a transformative journey for Cole. Today, he is on a wellness path, actively contributing to both our family and the larger community. Through his volunteer jobs and activities out in the community he has gained invaluable experience in communication, environmental adaptation, and social engagement, all while discovering the joy of meaningful participation.

Our hope is to bring Horizons of Hope to you, a program built on the belief that every individual has potential and deserves the support, opportunities, and community to truly thrive. Here, autistic adults and their aides are equipped with the tools, guidance, and encouragement they need to succeed, because everyone deserves the chance to be part of something greater.
